How to Study for the California Real Estate License Exam
Like any big test to study for, it is important to follow these simple steps to prepare yourself best when studying for the Real Estate license exam.
1. Don’t Cram
As the old saying goes, “slow and steady wins the race,” and this applies to studying as well. If you try to cram all your studying into a week or less, your brain may go on information overload and will not be able to retain the important information that you need for the state exam!
2. Study the 3 Required Courses
It’s important to remember that the exam covers many topics, most of which will be covered in your 3 textbooks, so don’t forget to reread them - especially the chapter outlines - to see what areas you’re strongest and weakest in. Revisit the parts that make you wonder, or areas that you remember having trouble with in the first place. Reviewing material makes it stick in your brain better, so remember to review everything you had trouble with!
3. Study the Practice Questions
Our Online Exam Prep Solution is a wealth of information and includes past questions that have shown up on state exams. It’s very helpful to answer these questions before the crash course and exam, since it shows you exactly what questions you got wrong, what the right answer was, and even a small explanation to show you why the right answer is correct. Plus, since the questions have been on previous state exams, it gives you a really good feel for how the questions will be written on your exam.
4. Take a 2 Day Live Crash Course
A live crash course is a great way to refresh your memory and really immerse yourself in studying for the upcoming exam. We recommend taking a crash course as soon as possible before your exam - maybe a week or less before would be ideal. Did you know that you can reschedule your state exam once the BRE gives you a test date? It might be a good idea to reschedule your tests until just after one of our weekend-long crash courses for the absolute maximum in test preparation!
5. Get a Good Night’s Rest
This one is important for every test and big day in life - try to get a good night’s sleep the night before! Because nobody likes to be tired while going into a big exam, especially one that’s over three hours long. Plus, sleeping rejuvenates your brain and has been proven to be helpful for test-taking, so don’t stay up late studying instead of resting!
6. Eat a Good Breakfast
As we said, the test is about three hours long - and no breaks for food! It’s best to eat a balanced, healthy breakfast (not too much sugar) before the test to ensure a steady energy source throughout the exam.
