Have you been working day in and day out but seem to get nowhere?

Are you not reaching any of the goals you have set out to achieve?

Or you can’t help but compare where you are in your career to that of your peers?

Maybe it’s time you consider creating some life-changing goals for yourself.

The real estate industry is a highly-competitive industry. Even if you have set out to achieve a list of goals, success may not come to you so easily. When you’re juggling a million things at a time, you may lose track of the bigger picture.

You get too distracted trying to finish your to-do list from day to day, that you end up getting lost. Also, things might not go your way all the time. You can be pressured into doing things that aren’t aligned with your goals.

It’s important for real estate agents to know what their big goals are because working hard without setting your goals will exhaust you. The best part of all is, life becomes more motivating with a clear cut finish line.

Deciding on what you want to accomplish early in your real estate career can do wonders for you. If you’re looking for help on this topic, keep on reading. We broke down the entire process of setting goals that will help you make the life altering change you’ve always wanted.

Make a Plan for What to Accomplish in the Next 5-Years

Creating a 5-year plan is a great way to visualize your real estate goals. To begin, try to visualize where you would like to be in the following 5 years.

Start by visualizing who you would want to be surrounded by. Who are your mentors five years down the line? Who are your colleagues? Ultimately, who you are surrounded by should be an aspect of your goals.

Once you have visualized the ‘who’ aspect, it’s time to move on to the ‘where’ aspect. Visualize where you would like to live five years into the future. Where do you see yourself in five years?

What are you doing by then? Even visualize what car you would like to be driving five years from now. This isn’t the time for you to be vague about your real estate goals. Try to be as specific as you can.

Avoid setting vague goals. Don’t simply say that you want to be successful in five years, define what success means to you.

Success can mean different things for different people.

Success can refer to the money that you have in your bank account. For some real estate agents, it can be the number of clients that they have.

While for others, it can be the size of their home. The bottom line is when you’re planning your real estate goals, you have to be as specific as possible.

Identify Short Term Real Estate Goals That Lead You to Long Term Success

The next step to this process is to determine the actions you need to take. Define the short-term actions you can take to achieve your long-term 5-year plan.

The idea is to start big and end small. It will be hard for you if you don’t break down your 5-year plan into short-term goals.

These short-term real estate goals are the actionable steps that you can make right now.

How to Research Your Action Items

To determine your short-term actionable goals, you must first do your research.

There is a lot of material available online. From blog posts to Youtube videos, the internet is full of resources you can use.

Another great method of research is to talk to your network. You can reach out to professionals. They may be life coaches or people whom you look up to. If there’s a person in your company that you aspire to be, take them out to a coffee meeting.

They don’t necessarily have to be from the same field. As long as that person has accomplished the goals which you have set out for yourself, they can help guide you in the right direction.

Once you have done your research, use the information to create a roadmap for yourself. Be mindful of what worked and what didn’t work for them.

Lastly, use the information and conversations you’ve had to serve as your motivation. Seeing the steps people took to earn success will validate the actions you’re taking in your life to earn that same success.

Start Visualizing Your Accomplishments

Once you have set your actionable short-term goals, it’s time to create a vision board. Contrary to popular belief, a vision board is not merely an art project. A vision board is actually a great tool for accomplishing one’s goals.

So, how does that work?

Constant exposure to your goals helps them stay top of mind. If you have a vision board displayed on your desk, you will always remember what you’re working towards. The constant exposure to your goals helps you develop the right mindset.

A traditional vision board is where you print or cut out pictures of and paste them on the actual board.  But if that type of art is not your thing, you don’t have to limit yourself to a physical vision board.

You can use the power of technology.

Create a collage on your mobile phone. This is also a great way of creating a vision board. Whether you create a physical vision board or a vision board on your phone, take a picture of it.

Once you have a picture of it, use it as your wallpaper. As real estate agents, your mobile phone is one of your most used items daily. If you have your vision board displayed as your wallpaper, you will see it every time you look at your phone.

This will allow you to remember the important habits that will help you accomplish your goals.

The Power of Setting Real Estate Goals

Setting your goals gives you a path to follow. Without goals, you will be swayed everywhere except for the direction you want to go.

Whenever a new opportunity opens up, you may easily say “yes” because you don’t know what you want. And contrary to popular opinion, you don’t always have to say “yes” to every opportunity that comes up. The reason behind this is because not every opportunity is worth your time and energy.

To add, when something goes wrong, you may want to give up. This is because you don’t have an idea of what you’re working towards. You can simply tell yourself that you’ll try something else and hope that it works.

This will only take up more of your time and slow you down. In order for you to know which opportunities are actually worth your time, you have to keep in mind the goals you have already set.

Create a roadmap for yourself. This will serve as your guide towards working in the direction that you want to go in your career. Doing so will help you avoid stagnation.

Having real estate goals means that you are constantly working towards something concrete. Also, this will allow you to get laser-focused on your goals. Whenever you experience setbacks, you can take a step back and reevaluate.

Then, determine your next action item. Not only will this help, you grow as a professional but it will also create a career that is rewarding.

Final Thoughts Creating Real Estate Agent Goals

Once you have created your 5-year plan, it is important to remember that this may evolve over time. A goal that you have set three years ago may not be completely true and relevant to where you are now. What’s important is that you continually observe where you are in your career and adjust.
